Reveal Your Purpose Part 2

There once was a woman taking a leisurely stroll in nature with another creator being—when all of a sudden, this other being said something that shocked her out of her body.  Her essence went into the other's mind to collect data—to learn what they needed—so that she could do something, to help them. She would do anything before the anger/fear had a chance to escalate.

Once she'd gathered enough intel to know the perfect words to say, she realized what her nervous system had done.  It did what it needed to in order to keep her safe (from feeling the density of the others’ emotions within her own body), but now she needed to return to her Self.  The only problem was that she was now aware of the black hole that surrounded this other creator being—and black holes suck energy.  She’ll need to pass through it (again) to return to her Self.

This scene illustrates what it’s like for an empath—how they cope—in unpredictable environments.  Quite frankly, an empath’s gifts are born out of these environments.  They become highly sensitive and attuned to the needs of those around them, honing their intuition, empathy, and healing abilities.

The challenge, however, is that this merging not only leads to chronic fatigue, but involves suppressing your emotions—making it difficult to tune into your own needs and desires.  In short, it becomes difficult to "know thyself" and feel like you're flowing with your life's purpose!

So how can you gain clarity on your own needs and desires so you can express your Self more fully?

In Reveal Your Purpose Part 1, I describe the common misconception that if you're feeling confused, stuck, or challenged, that you're not living your life's purpose. It certainly can feel that way, but when you have awareness that both contractive and expansive elements are par for the course in any transformational journey, it makes it easier to treat yourself with compassion.

In Reveal Your Purpose Part 2, I invite you to increase your awareness of what you’re feeling (physically and emotionally), as well as what you're thinking.  The more you have this awareness ("know thyself"), the more you'll be prompted to tune into your inner wisdom's guidance on your needs and desires so you can express yourself with confidence (key elements in flowing with your purpose).

Here’s a checklist to get you started:

  • Do you have a safe space—a room, or part of a room where you can relax?
  • Do you give yourself the time and space to ask what you're feeling (physically and emotionally) and become aware of your limiting beliefs?
  • Do you know what you need and want?

If you answered "No" to any of these questions, see if you can locate a space that has lots of cues of safety to your nervous system (natural light, beauty...), then bring a pen and paper for some free-writing.  Free-writing can be a great way to gain clarity on what you're feeling and discern what is yours and what's not.  Writing can also help you see what's really important to you so you can say "No" to what is no longer serving you and free up your energy for experiences that will bring more fulfillment and joy (and that feeling of being aligned with your purpose).

One of the ways that I've been able to dedicate this time for myself is to join a writing group.  Even with a virtual connection over Zoom, there's something magical about being in a field of other people writing.

I've really enjoyed joining other groups, but I also love hosting events like this for other empaths.  Through hosting the Empowered Voices Writing Group for Empaths, my intention is to not only create and hold a safe space for you to experience the healing affects that come with expressing yourself, but it will also allow you to tap into a state of flow where you can tune into your inner knowing and make empowered decisions.
